Holy gars!
So you currently have around 26 Cuban gars in your possession at this time including the ones from the first importation?
Well, I think I should go to bed now because I'm starting to feel like I'm in one big dream full of Cuban gars, and I don't even have one yet so maybe that's my cue to go to sleep.
don't worry, you'll get yours soon
yes, the CBGs have quickly become the most abundant species here at The Tank...well, aside from fathead minnows. Study-affiliated gars now equals 29, add 2 more (first order's adults) for 31 CBGs total. there's a lot of gars here to say the least. will be picking up an unusual specimen from an LFS by the weekend too.

Wow, more Cgars?

Most of them look very different.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
thanks! yes, variation is pretty high, i noticed this with the first group, but it is even more prevalent in this group (of course, there are more fish too). they came in pretty skinny, so i am sure low ration will increase variation in appearance. the ones from the first study group now look a lot more uniform.

Some interesting patterns on those gars. Planning on doing a second growth study with a larger tank as a control?
yeah, if the first group is any indication, they should all start matching up in appearance as they progress. as we know it doesn't take long for nearly all Cuban gars to look the same since there is very little adult pattern to vary.
as for the second study, i might use some in a larger tank, but now that we have calibrated the growth rate to an extent we know what to expect and how long to run the trial for, so likely just using a similar setup as before with tweaking a couple new variables.--
