Em, anyone who's ever over in the FW Inverts section should know I'm a huge crayfish keeper at this point. And as such, I often have many different broods of crayfish that get moved from tank to tank as they grow.

Well, it seems a few runts got left in the tank I'm now using for my Polypterus delhezi. And he just made a snack of one of them. Is that ok? I don't remember reading anywhere that I should be feeding them hard-shelled invertebrates. And I wasn't trying to, I just hadn't seen the runts in the tank until I walked over to see what he was shaking apart and munching on.

Is that crayfish going to cause a digestive issue? He tore it apart pretty good from what I saw, but still... hard carapace and all.

I'm betting it will be just fine. According to one study, it seems crabs may be the main part of the diet for wild polypterus.

Okay, cool. Well, if it doesn't seem to develop an issue maybe I can feed it runts and small crays as treats here and there?
If they're eating crabs in the wild, crayfish might be a similar replacement... it's like a crab, you know, just elongated lol

to be on the safer side of this i'd use fresh them just after shedding when they are still nice and soft and only as treats once in a while-Anne
