any one every seen this? my gf wants me to build one any information would be cool. if you have not seen this go to youtube.com and search for open bottom tanks and give you thoughts on this. thanks

Actually, I believe you don't, as long as you fill the part going out of the water with water completely and don't let any air when you turn it around.

I saw a video on youtube of how it works. It was running on a vacuum. They turned off the vacuum and the water level started to drop.

you need a vacum or else the water escapes.
if you can submerge the top tank in the bottom one flip it upside down, pull it up out of the water, and set it on supports. that would be the easiest

You can put one end of an air hose in the tank you are going to raise up and the other end out just into the room. Push the tank below the water all the air will go out of the hose, when the air is gone take the hose out and just pull the tank up. You just need someone adding water the same time you lift the upper tank up.

They don't need a vacuum to keep running but the larger setups need a vacuum to get the water in the upside down tank if you cant submerge the upper tank into the lower tank.

The ones I have seem are pretty simple actually. If you want to do a small one I can explain how. Like others have said you would need to be able to submerge the upper tank into the lower tank, or if you want to do a larger one you will need a vacuum pump to get the water up into the upside down tank.

If you want bubbles to be going up in the upside down tank it gets more complicated but is not to bad.

Can you work with acrylic? Can you get (barrow) a vacuum pump to get it going?

This would be a cool build. I can guide you through it. I have looked into this style tank as I was thinking of doing one myself.
