So i've recently just heard about this kind of tank setup. What exactly makes it "open bottom?" Could you explain a little more?

basicly u turn a tank upside down in a basin of water. vacum keeps the tank filled with water. guess i gotta post pics of mine. i did it with spare tanks so its not perfect of really that pretty. this was basicly to try it out and learn about it so that in the future i can build a show version. The bottom tank is a 5.5g. top is a 2.5 gallon. trying to remove the top brace did crack(god i suck at that) the rear glass pane of the 2.5g. hopeing that doesnt become an issue.

We had something like that set up in the store with this arch...the gouramis kept going into the upper portion and drowning...

so no gourami!

the videos on youtube are amazing. your picture i'm not sure qualifies as an open bottom tank. i guess if you didn't fill the bottom tank to the top it would? all you do is submerge the top tank and pull it up trapping the water into the tank creating a vacuum.

Mmm thats a bit weird,il have a look on youtube to see if i can decide if i like it or not???

Cheers steve

why not?
once it is cured and filled the air will be removed from the top tank. thus it will be filled while not having a bottom. how is that not an open bottom tank?

bump. no one has made one? not even a small one?
