Hi,

Anyone have any experience opening a C-530 Marineland Canister Filter?

Soon I will need to do some maintenance and I am not sure how to open the filter without siphoning the tank water on the floor.

Do I have to take the valve block off the motor head using the key?
Or just unlatch the motor head?

Why aren't there any instructions on how to do this?

I am use to Eheims..................but due to the economy, had to buy a cheaper filter.

First get a bucket full of aquarium water, unplug the canister, put the media in the canister and do what you need to do. Put a bucket under the pipe when you disconnect it to collect any remaining water in the tube.

What will prevent the water from siphoning out of my fishtank?

That is my only question

This filter is new to me.

But, I have been doing filter maintenance for about 40 years.

My 2 Eheims are easy................just detach the hose connections going into the motor head.

There is a big lever you have to pop up inbetween the in and out tubes and another small one underneath it that you have to pop up and turn to the left I believe.. or it might go eitherway. Everytime I turn the small one it seems like I'm going to break it, then just pull the whole thing out.

So, I need to take the valve block off the motor head, by lifting up the key cover and turning the key?

If so, thank you for answering my question.

Just leave the levers where they are. if you push one back down it will siphon out.

STOP BEING A PANSY AND JUST DO IT:D.

I live in a high rise condo. I just got done paying for a new ceiling for the condo below, because my tollet's soil pipe leaked on their ceiling.

I could of bought $500.00 worth of fish stuff!!!!!

Filter pads are ordered, just getting prepared ..................

I have rinsed out my filter pads for the last year and a half and also have the 2 extra ones still in the box from when I bought the 530.
I don't use charcol so I filled it up with more bioballs.
The only thing you should really have to buy for the 530 is the polishing pads.

I read that the filter pads last 8 months or more. So I have only ordered the polishing pads. I did not get any extras with the filter, but got a good price on the unit.

I have been using the same filter pads on my Eheims for 2 years.

Apparently if the pads turn to mush or are ripped or quashed then its time to replace the filter pads

Did notice today the price went up like 22.00$, since I got mine.............
