Operational time for Canister filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's actually worse, to have them stop and then go again, than to just have them run continuously. However, they do have to be turned off for maintenance. It is during these times that, I find my canisters doesn't run as smoothly or have issues, once it starts back up.
So, no, never ever turn them off unless it's for maintenance or emergencies.

Also wanted to add:
I could never justified paying high prices for the big name brand canisters, so I've always used the inexpensive Chinese models(Sunsun and Oddyssea)
At one point, I had 6 of these units running at the same time......currently 4. They've all worked well. Typically life span appears to be 5 years. 5 years for large capacity, sub $90 canisters, is just fine for me.

Purchased another one last year to replace a 7 year old one. I've owned about 6 of these in the past 7 years. Been very satisfied with each one I've owned.
