I've always used Marineland Premium activated carbon and have been very pleased with it. In the search for BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER and hopefully cheaper. I found bulkreefsupply.com. They have something called ROX 0.8. has anyone used this. Maybe direct me somewhere else to buy quality carbon at a reasonable price.

I don't use carbon for anything. I'd recommend spending your money on more biomedia.

I only use carbon with a new filter (just because it comes with carbon).

Like ewurm said, waste of cash.

The only suitable use for carbon as filter media is the removal of medication. Anything else is - best case - a waste of money or - worst case - detrimental to plants and fish (removal of micro nutrients)

So does everyone just use bio/mechanical filtration. Only use carbon in certain instances. I was thinking that i had moved on from beginner but i guess i haven't thanks for the info

My brother has removed all the carbon out of his Aqua clears and used that extra space for bio material in his tanks like everyone else has said.

Yup, carbon is useless for constant use. It only works for a day or two anyway. After that it just takes up space.

a lot of people say carbon is just the cheaters way to get clear water... but iono. i like using it.. like chemi pure is good stuf.. keeps your water clear and helps with your water levels. i understand the whole bio media is the best... but its always nice to have some sort of chemical filtration in there... :D just my opinion
