that size BGK are less commonly available. sometimes bigger ones are returned to lfs because they get a taste for eating other fish's eyes out. hopefully the store would be honest if they know that. however, sometimes people just didn't know how big they get.

ABKs also emit some EOD, but they don't rely on it nearly as much as BGKs. ABKs can form loose shoals. The whole crossing wire thing is a myth. All Electric Fish can change their frequency. It all comes down to territory.

I've noticed that @12", my BGK has become somewhat more aggressive to the point where it'll actually nip @ my Achara's when they get to close to his spot. The Achara out size and out muscle him anyway, so not worried.

oh, thanks Ben. I had searched about african knives & electrical frequency before & didn't think they used it.

I wonder if a mix could work in my 180.. BGK ABK and elephantnose petersii are all cool.

It could work, Elephant Noses are shoaling fish, but I've heard they tend to be aggressive with each other in captivity. Some members have tried the Elephant and Knife combo and hasn't worked out well, but I also don't think they used anything bigger than a 125g. Seems that they need a lot of room to try this. A 180g might work. I've always wanted to try myself, but felt that I didn't want to try it in anything less than a 240g (dream tank).
