I want to do a 225 with six discus 4 wild color forms like browns or maybe even wilds themselves and 2 silver pigeons, a pair of angels, 10 diiamond tetras, a pair of bristlenose, and 4 s.a. bumblebee cats. The tank will be heavily planted with various swords and other south american plants and have 2 large pieces of driftwood. one branching the other just a large log. It will be maintained at 82 degrees F. What is your opinion?

how big do you plan to start the discus off with? i would recomend bb until theyre roughly 5"+ and for a 220g i would go with atleast 10 discus. they do amazin in a huge group

My .02 would be to not add the Bumblebees or the pair of Angels, a breeding pair of Angels (if you happen to get a M&F) could be brutal. If this is your first time with Discus stick with domestic strains they're alittle more forgiving. Bumping the temp up to around 84 would be OK too. If you want to add somthing else some Rams and corys would be a nice addition, water peramiters are the same as the Discus if one is doing well the other will too.

This is entirely personal preference, but IME wilds and domestics don't look good together. A friend of mine did it and couldn't stand the look. Ended up getting rid of all the domestics.

why would the bumblebees not work? also instead of angels how does a pair of pearl gouramis sound. I can always do a pair of angels in my 30. a pair of angels would work in a 30 species tank right? and I don't want to take the discus out of the wild I want captive breds that look like the wild type, something like tefe and maybe some f1's?

Honestly I don't know about the Gouramis I never kept them, personnaly I don't like mixing SAs with anything and the Discus themselves are beautiful enough on their own. But that's me it all comes down to what you like. I don't think the Bumblebees wouln't work I just think the Rams and Corys will be a better choice and less competitive at feeding time especially if you're considering young fish, again it's up to you. If you can get some F1,2 wild types deff go for it. I agree with Peat as far as the domestic strains mixed with wilds/wild type I've seen it and don't like the look either. To be totaly honest I'm not a big fan of most of the man made strains, but everyone has their own taste when it comes to what they like. There's nothing wrong with what you wanted, I just gave some other options.

I think Silver Pigeons would pepper up in that tank. As for the bumblebees they would work but you have to watch how much of a ground group you have. I kept one in my discus tank for 5 years..but it was the only cleaner except 1 pleco. Most bumblebees wont come out during the day to feed. jme If you are looking for more of a visible cleaner crew go for the cories or red head geos. Most domestic strains darken too much in a heavily planted tank...there are some exceptions that i can think of off the top of my head: blue diamonds, domestic alenquers, red spotted green, domestic tefes.

unless you have a very light substrate and background, any pigeonblood based discus will pepper, but some people don't mind it. I agree that mixing wilds and domestics just don't look right. I also don't like mixing S.A's with Asian. Gouramis can get aggressive when feeding and discus are slow eaters. for the price your going to pay for discus they they should be your main concern. your tank would be great for at least 10 adults or at least 4 inch fish. I had to remove 4 festivums. while there was no actual arression, the discus just kept to the back of the tank behind the wood. as soon as I removed the festivum's the discus used the whole tank again. not saying it can't work, but one sick discus can wipe out your whole tank.
