I've been scouting for a new tank. I think Glasscages.com has the best deal on new. The only problem is their delivery. They want me to meet the truck driver at a truckstop about 2 hours away and pick it up directly off the truck next month on the 15th. The delivery will only cost $150 but then I'll have to rent a U-haul trailer (it's a 96"x30"x25"-300 wide) and bring some friends to bring it home. Has anyone else ever done it that way and how did it work out? My friends that could help me all work Saturdays btw so another problem is finding a way to get it home.

My other option is a used 84"x24"x25" for a used drilled tank, cherrywood stand, and 4 Eheim filters for $1200 + $200 to deliver it and set it up in my fishroom. This would obviously be easier and cheaper but the tank is much smaller.

What should I do?

You'd be getting hosed on the second deal. As far as the shipping goes...the problem is that commercial carriers...(Semi's) are not allowed in most neighborhoods so you have to meet them. This is normal and thats a great price for shipping a tank that large. I don't know how prices there compare to here in cali but we can get a new glass 300 for 850.00.

Hello, I also want to buy a 300 gal. tank from Glasscages, I also think it is the best deal. I have thought of having a friend use his pickup truck to pick it up for me about one hour away. You can also rent pickups from Home depot for $20 per hour I think plus gas.

but from other threads about GC.com their quality seems to be questionable...

Most of what I've seen from GC has been sloppy...borderline shoddy...work and in all honesty they really arent that much cheaper than other places I deal with.

Oh, I would love to hear what they said about their experience with G.C. ?

Hi again, can you be more specific, since I plan to buy a tank from them I would like to know all I can about exact experiences people had with them. Bob

well first they only give you a 90 day guarantee and I have heard stories of seals bursting, braces popping, pretty much the tank falling apart....

most os what i have seen on the net seems to be complaints about how the tank looks (sloppy silicone and such) i havent heard of any tanks bursting or leaking. i have a friend who bought a custom acrylic tank for selling corals at frag swaps and it seems nice but with acrylic no silicone. that being said i think you get what you pay for most of the time. one thing to check may be glass thickness between gc and their competitors not sure if there is a difference but it may help explain the price difference.
