Im setting up my 240 this weekend which I am really excited about, but here is my problem.

I found a great buy for a colony of breeding fronts but the guy would like me to pick them up this weekend.

-Should I get them and risk new tank syndrome?
-Should I ask to see if he can hold them for a little bit and try to speed cycle with chems? I dont have any seeded filter media I can spare. My 150gal is at my moms place.
-Should I pass and wait for another good buy?

Any suggestions would be great. THANKS!

If you like Fronts, ask if he can hold them. Speed with chimicals tho, I use Cycle, but others swear by, Biospira. You can Risk it, Ive dont it before, twice, and never had one loss. Your call.

1. Ask him to hold it for you and offer a down payment for holding.

2. Take some of the water and media from the tank at your moms house to quickly get your tank ready.

3. Good Luck!

1. use media from other tanks and water.

2. risk it if no two ways around it.

3.attention and massive water changes, starting in earnest end of first week

good luck

Im gonna talk with him today. Hopefully he can hold them for at least a week.

Ive risked it before with no loss, but that was with some lower priced fish.

Plus it will be hard.. im not talking a trio.. there are a total of 14 fronts 5"-9"

Keep us informed.

Give the guy some dough to hold the fish, not to much though cause he could just take your $$$ and sell the fish.

DO IT.

Don't bother moving any water, there is no bacteria in the water that would help with your cycle. Try to see if he'll give you some of his filter media perhaps, or at the very least some gravel. If he can't or won't try the LFS, sometimes they will spare media (this is risky however die to possable disease transfer). I would not risk the fronts in an uncycled tank. If you cannot get some BB in that tank I suggest asking him if he will hold them. Who knows...maybe he will give you all of his media just to get them off his hands faster..

I'm with the others about using media from an established tank. All you'll have to do is watch the water parameters closely in the beginning in case you get a mini-cycle. That can be taken care of with partial water changes and some patience.

Yeah.. thats probably what I am going to do. First Ill see if he will keep the for me for a little bit. Ill try to swing by my moms for the seeded media, setup the tank and cross my fingers.

I am pretty good with monitoring my tanks so I should be good.. we will see..

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!
