What are everyones thoughts on the RED TEXAS.....

I don't own one but will eventually get one. It's a good looking hybrid.

I really like Red Texas and own a male. I didn't expect him to turn out so aggressive (he is in a 90g by himself and can't have any tankmates at all). There are several grades and qualities of Red Texas but the brightly-colored ones are stunning. As I'm starting to realize with most Flowerhorns, I think they are very overpriced. I will probably never buy another Red Texas or hybrid because I enjoy fish such as Midas just as much, at a tiny fractino of the price. This is just my opinion...

What grade is the Red Tex in your avatar? I am thinkin about getting some grade A Red Tex, but really would want them to be as intense as possible with red coloration. The one FishFreak posted is intense. It would be awesome to get one of that quality.

Is there any grade higher than A? Like AA? or such? Thanks! Probably one of the few hybrids I would actually consider keeping!

umm well they are hybrids... so my guess is this thread will be moved there....

my thoughts on them are i love them, they are a great beginner fish, and some get really intense colors, like this guy from THAILAND.

 Really Amazing fish. Love it. much more beautiful then flowerhorns.

I'm not well educated on grades. I'd say mine isn't so good because his color is more of a tangerine than a red. The brilliant red ones such as the one above are sold for much more, and they're highly desired and much rarer to find. I'd say the male in this thread would be close to $1000, maybe $700 at the least. He's also probably kept under lights that best enhance his color, and given foods such as krill and bloodworms to help. Plus, most SRT will not have a kok or nuchal hump (mine certainly doesn't). It depends on what species went into the making of the individual fish. There are several ways to obtain SRT from what I've read, and this guy most definitely has a different lineage than mine.

Try aquabid.com to see what selection is out there. Also www.flowerhornusa.com forums have a section for Red Texas where you could probably find more info on grades and such.

Looks like an amazing fish if the one in photos above is a good example of a Red Texas, but it worries me how far hybridizing has gone. On the other hand it's creating a big niche in the hobby/market and pulls pressure of the Wild dependence. Lots of points for either side.
