So after some browsing...

Acaras. Im finding a lot of them stay under the 6" range... Can I get more than one type or do they get aggressive towards conspecifics?

Geophagus sp 'red head tapajos' Also reading under the 6" range, how many could work in this tank?

About how fast do they grow on average?

the severum I showed you grew about half an inch a month. they have growth spurts though. some grow really fast but all the ones I've ever kept were on the slower side.

Red head tapajos group should work fine because your tank is quite long so it will give them a lot of space. Not really sure how many of them are to be kept in a group. I would wait for someone who knows more about geo's to contribute but I think there are certain male to female ratios that are required.

When you talk about Acaras do you mean Aequidens species or the dwarf cichlid species? because the blue acara is the only Aequidens that is called "acara" that I know of. I also know that Aequidens species tend to get large and aggressive like Diadema or green terrors. If you could get hold of some of the rarer smaller Aequidens species that would be cool, but as for dwarf cichlids like cockatoos and others they tend to do fine as long as there are enough different territories and areas for them to claim.

A 33g tank is a bit small for any geo species. Once they grow out, there will not be very much space for the subdominant individuals to hide. I'd stick with rams, apistos or other small peaceful cichlids that stay under 4".

Well if I went with geos, they would be upgraded to a larger tank once I move, so would it be okay while they are growing?

Still trying to find more info on acaras, I dint know how big my syno will get, worried that he may try eating my rams lol

Bumping this up, hoping for some more advice on the geos. Have the opportunity to pick up a few juvies tomorrow and need to give him an answer by tonight. Was thinking a group of four or five.

Also hoping for some input on acaras as well.

Thanks all!
