opinions on bio media

can i ask what some of you think, about what is the best bio media to put into an fx5 filter. thanks

I like substrate pro. A more economical solution is seachem matrix. Also fluval bio max. I have used all of the currently I dont have more than two days experience with the matrix just put some in one of my filters. In my opinion the best is substrate pro and matrix being a tie from what I have read.

azoo bio glass is cheap(3L for $25 at drs.f&S) and has worked very well for me. never tried the matrix but will next time i buy media.

I think the Ehfisubstrat, matrix, bio glass and biomax are all comparable. I have heard that ehfisubstrat and matrix can clog the bottom of the FX5 baskets, anyone find this to be true?

I'm a big fan of the Biomax. Works great and doesn't clog the trays.

It's possible. The manual says to use filter bags no matter what. It wasn't until I read a few posts on here that I finally got confident enough to take my biomax out of the filter bags haha.

agreed, i always buy azoo products.

biomax (i heard, cant find the thread) has a rediculously large amount of surface area

there are two sizes of substrat pro. The bigger size, if you clean the powdery bits out, won't clog it.
