What if you can't get to the joists? I have a 280gal. If the tank was in my hallway, I'd be able to get to them because it would be over my laundry room. But since it's in the living room, it falls over my game room. I do have the tank in the corner of the room, but I believe it is running parallel to the joists

Why cant you get to the joists??? I can get to my joists because it is a situation like in BUD8FAN's pictures...... The crawl space allows me to get at the joists........

Could be that its a finished room with sheetrock...

Exactly! The ceiling of my gameroom actually looks more like cement than sheetrock, but that can't be right, can it? I'll have to try to take a picture to show you guys

Hey BUD8FAN....., I was wondering if you have a pic of the bottom portion of the supports (where they touch the floor)??? thanks.....

Not right now but I found this from a google search and it looks just like mine.

Cool..., thanks.... I hope that i can get these metal supports in a smaller lengths..., more like 2-3'?? If not I will need to improvise....

And how did you reinforce the floor?? Doublewide as in a modular???
1974 dw trailer. I just went underneath and supported the floor simular to bud8. Just in a crawl hole is the only difference. Scary part is, I did'nt find out until almost to late, that the floor joists are 2x4's!

That would have really made a mess.... Good luck you did... What size tank do you have??
Let me ask you this..... Since you had almost the same situation as me (a dirt crawl space.., not a concrete base) What did you use as a base for the supports?? Do you have to worry alot about frost depth where you are?? I am trying to figure out what My base should be like. This seems to be the only tricky part..... I'm not sure if I need to dig down and create a concrete or stone base that goes into the ground a bit or can I just place an level really large flat stones an use them as my base. They would have to be really big but it may be easier than the first.

What does everybody think??

Hacksaw and a drill and you can make tham any length you need.

I'm putting a 150g top tank and a 100g bottom tank on a metal stand in an old single wide trailer. Front of the tanks will be about 2 inches from the supporting I beam and the back will have some kind of extra support between the bottom of the trailer and the cemant pad. I am also be making a subframe for the stand out of 2"by3"-3/16" wall square tubing , the purpose will be to spread the weight out over several joist plus if the trailer moves(frost heave or settling) the tank will never have any twisting force applied to it.

After a short discussion with my Fiance, we've decided we're going to re-do the game room, and turn it into a tank/TV room. It's on the first floor, with a concrete floor. We'll have our 300gal, a 75gal Piranha tank, a 40 gal community tank, a 30gal Discus tank and a 15gal feeder tank. We'll just have to find room for the 55" tv, as well as my toys lol. Better safe than sorry, since I can't get under to the joists to support the big tank in my living room!
