Ok guys so currently I have my 4 rays (2m2f) in my 300 gallon stock pond with a 72 gpd drip I plan on upgrading to a bigger tank and came across a trough that was 96x48x16....water level would prob be about 13-14 inches.....the length and width is nice but the height seems shallow to breed rays...... do you think it's possible?..... I plan on adding 1-2 more females in the near future and want a nice size tank for them

My other options at this time are a

6x3x3

And maybe a 6 foot x 2 cylinder tank

What kind of rays do you have? The 8' by 4' would be amazing for most rays.

As of now I have

1 female orb 8 inches
1 female motoro 10 inches
1 male motoro 9 inches
1 male bd hybrid 8.5 inches

I will prob sell the motoros off in the next 2-4 years once I get more experience under my belt to invest in pearls/bd/Leo's

I also heard that shallow water help imitate breeding

Breeding aside, ray husbandry requires the largest footprint you can accommodate so as stated earlier, the 8x4 is the best option of what you listed. I agree also that the height is perhaps a little shallow but doubt it would be detrimental to breeding, not really sure tbh

Thank you for ur input .... yes 8x4 would be best for area space for rays but if there is a lower chance of them breeding I would rather go with the 6 foot cylinder with 2 foot height around 375-400 gallons

I have a 9'X4'x13 inch tank that I have had several rays breeding in over the years including a females with over 20" disc.Breeding in the tank does not seem to be a problem. But if not for the euro bracing around the top edge many of the rays would have swam out of the tank just in day to day swiming! So if you are going to but rays in such a shallow tank you need some sort of "fence" around the top to keep them in.

Has anyone used containment tanks?....my problem is I can only get a certain size through the doors and the depth cant be more then 28 inches...... thought about using an intex pool but don't know if the rays will puncture it even tho they are pretty thick......any help would be appreciated
