Opinions on new ray tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The thing about rays is yes a big footprint (8x4 minimum) is necessary, but you will notice they will be happier in a higher tank solely for the purposes of glass surfing. Remember these are river stingrays, and I would say 3 feet is a fairly safe depth for a river fish. I wouldn't dream of keeping more than a trio in an 8x4x2, once you see the size of mature females and especially after you have to separate any with a divider (due to aggression or pregnancy) you will start to realize that really isn't great room for them. An extra foot height only adds to sense of security and total size disproparotianley to the footprint, so 4 in an 8x4x3 is probably max for me. Picture living in your living room forever, wouldn't you want to jump off the walls for fun? Basically all your rays have is pounding bubbles at the top, deny them that due to a shallow tank and it may be harder for you to get them happy enough to breed.

I have the 300 to seperate rays during breeding that isn't my concern ... my concern is if the rays have been known or will most likely puncture thru a pvc intex pool and if containment tubs are a good option

I think intex pools may work in the short term, however I would prefer to build a framed pool with a liner.I have one that is 16'X5'x3' that has been in use for 18 years and going strong.I must admit however so far I have not kept any rays in it.They are easy to build and you can custom size it to fit your available space.

I'm not 100% positive...I've heard and read from past threads on mfk about mixed reviews on both so it kind of put me in a jam lol

This is frustrating stock tanks at tractor supply jump from the Rubbermaid 300 to a 8x2 round stock tank but my doors are only 6.5 feet tall lol most of the stock tanks I see online charge an arm and a leg in shipping and are way too long or tall
