Opinions on Seachem Matrix

Just buy the 20L pond matrix like I do and you just push in a locking tab and unscrew the top to get it open. You also get a very sturdy 5.5 gal bucket this way

I'm not to sure about the claims that it reduces Nitrates but mine never go over 10ppm and I do my water changes every 3 weeks. I do top off the tank once a week about 20 gallons though.

Thanks i was planning on putting it in nylon bags so its not just dumped in the sump but for the 4l it seems like a good pricee

I use both substrat pro and matrix. Subpro cost about $70 for 5L. Pond matrix costs $85 for 20L. They both work about equally as well IMO.

Matrix and pond matrix are two of the best priced medias on the market.

Matrix is awesome.
Eheim effisubstrate is comparable. Eheim Effisubstrate Pro is also good but pricey.

You have to remove the strip around the edge first. Kinda like a milk jug's top. After I removed that, the four lips on the lid made it really easy to take it off...and I'm a girl.

My lid isn't like that. It's just a single strip around the outside that seals it closed.

I just purchased 4L to put in my FX5 and Rena XP3. It's too soon for me to discuss how well it works, but a couple of pointers:
-Rinse it well
-Some of the pieces are too small and will fall through the media trays. For the FX5 I used the media trays as a sifter and shook it around over a bucket to allow the small pieces to fall through. I'd recommend putting it in bags.

yeah i like that site too, but they don't have pond matrix, i found a few sites that do but it's much less common.
