Just wondering what you guys though.

Right now I house my FO Red devil pair( is 11", F is 8.5") in a 75g tank (48x18x22"). They are going on 4 years old and haven't grown in quite awhile. They cohabitate very well together and she also has a cave to escape to when needed.

How do you think they would do in a 30" x 30" x 18" seventy gallon tank?

probably worse, cutting down a foot of space is never a good idea IMO. that 5 gallon difference is gonna seem like you took 50 out if he gets to territorial

The 30 x 30 actually has a bigger footprint then the 48 x 18. So the only loss would be in height.

When he does become too aggressive towards her she has to hide, this was even the case in a 150g tank.

the lower height might make them more nervious/taritorial i have seen this happen with some basses not the same, but simmilar

i understand that im just saying i think longer tanks are much better. he can have half the tank be his and she'll be fine, the same 24" of territory in the other tank and she will constanly be on the border. im sure with certain decor theyll cohabitate but IMO your current set up is ideal

although there is a larger footprint all the walls will be short distances at 30", not much room to stretch out or gain any swimming speed when wanted IMO. perhaps try it out though, it could work great for them.

LOL he owns the entire tank not some little 24" territory:screwy:

Even if it is "working" either tank is a little small they need the footprint of a 125 or larger.
