Your dead right about the assembly involved it seems very ancient compared to the ease of an FX5's setup. If your filter turns over your tank enough and keeps the levels where they should be; it is a good filter.
Personally, I swear by FX5's and even my 404's. I have quite a few filters but one I will never buy NEW is a Jebo. I don't like the quality of components, how much assembly is involved, the list goes on.
It has been a few years since I have had one but the past has me steering clear.
It's got some power.
