Opinions on this lighting system? I'd love to hear them!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lol

i think you need to stick with just the lights you have and do ALOT more research

NOW IM DONE

I was trying to research public opinion these lights. There are 2 reviews on DrsFosterandSmith; I was hoping to find more. I'm so sorry that you've become incredibly frustrated. I really did just ask four questions. If you didn't know the answer to them, you didn't have to post.

I happen to believe the lights are just fine, as far as their strength. You've wavered quite a bit on whether they are or not. Your opinion changes depending on what questions I ask.

This is my research on these lights and the warranty that comes with them. I know what I'm growing and what I want to grow, and they're all low-light.

Again, don't feel the need to respond to the question if the process frustrates you. It's not worth it!

I sincerely apologize that you chose to try and help me and ended up having to deal with me. I was only asking questions that matter to me, and your answers were unclear to me. Don't feel obligated to "deal with me" again, please.

Thank you, mr. reef. So, the fixture will probably be suspended six to eight inches above the tank, and it is the standard twenty four inch deep 180. So, a total of 30 to 32 inches.

the fixture would be fine I would go though with 150 watts unless your going to do all SPS, or LPS corals then I would go 250 watts.

Sorry I have to but in here..
T-5's WILL NOT MELT SOFTIES>>
I have a 250w MH over my 29 gallon tank FULL Of shrooms and zoos..
This is total mis info..
If you get a good T-5 fixture, you can even grow SPS under them if you put them up High.

Second Power compacts are only good for lighting my sump/fuge nothing more..
There is WAY better technology now..
I would get three individual reflectors and roll 250w MH bulbs.
Reflectors and ballasts make all the difference in MH's..
And some T-5 actinics in individual reflectors..of actinic fill.
This way your set for anything in the future and grow your stuff now like weeds..
If you want you could roll `150w bulbs and ballasts till you want to upgrade for more demanding corals..
then keep the good reflectors and witch out the bulbs and ballasts .
This is one reason I like single ended MH bulbs..

Thank you! So, what you're saying is buy multiple pieces, so that I'm not having to replace an entire system should we decide to grow something which needs more light. I am going to read your post to my husband tomorrow and see what he has to say about this idea. He is much more handy than I with electrical stuff LOL.

I didn't think that the light I'm looking at was so strong as to melt my corals, but I'm still very new to the lighting stuff.

Do you think this method would be cheaper or more expensive than what we're looking at? Can you recommend an online retailer?

Again, thanks for your help.

most high halides are fine with Certain soft corals you just have to watch what type of octocorals you house in your tank and under what lighting intensity some people just luck out with this but 99% don't

mr.reef24

Thanks, mr. reef. What I'll do is find a complete list of those octocorals and first, ensure we're not keeping any. If we are, and we decide to go with MH, then we'll move them to the bottom of the tank. I'll also keep it handy when we shop for corals so we'll know what we're looking at. Thanks again. I'll be sure to do more research into octocorals.

Thanks. The online warranty says one year as well. I'm going to call Marineland for details on it. If it is only one year, that's something to consider, for sure!
