Okay....we are looking in to this at school. There are many different ways of looking at 2012. NO the world will not go POOF! but there might be some bad that will happen. For one planet x will enter our solar system (its a theory) in 2012. This will send chunks of rocks at earth and will also cool or rise the average temp of the earth. Also with the worlds population growing each day food is running out. Prices will go high and people will freak out b/c of this......b/c really?....a human that is starving will do anything for food. We here on the western world are clueless to how bad things really are. Also a nuclear war might happen. Think about it? It doesn't take a smart person to press a button. ORRRRRRR
People tend to think the worst when they hear somthing is going to end even as somthing simple as a calender. So who knows? If we die, we die if we don't then we don't. DON'T fear death........

Yes the world will end as we know it. Congress will prohibit the consumption of bacon as part of the Health Care reform! Just my 2 cents.

I hate how people analyze the Sun Stone incorrectly and only look at the Mayan cyclical calendar! The Mexica (commonly known as the Aztecs) were the first to invent the round count calendar, the Mayans "borrowed" it and made some alterations. They weren't predicting the end of the world in a physical sense. If you look towards the center of the Sun Stone, there are 4 symbols representing different eras, or worlds; Jaguar, Wind, Rain, and Water. Their civilization was wiped out before they could add a new era to the calendar, which is theorized to be Death.
