My wife wants to put a small tank (30g) in the bathroom(bubblebath time?) I told her that I did'nt think it would be safe. fumes etc. She said she would do her hair in the other room. I still think it would be unsafe. Any thoughts??

I would think you would run into a bunch of smaller problems.. temperature swings, chemicals in the air..

Just tell her no :)

I had a 15 gallon in my bathroom for probably 6 months and never had any issues. I eventually took it out, cause I didn't spend enough time in there. Decided to move it to a place where more people would see it.

well she likes to take long baths, and she's into fish. the only time I would be looking at it is when i'm sitting down.:D I like to keep her happy, but not sure about the air quality LOL. Chemicls that is.

With a good fitting top and her being careful about chemicals that float around in the air like hair spray and other spray chemicals(she should probably use those in another room if she indeed uses them) I don't see a problem.

maybe you can set up a gold fish or guppy tank.. with all the usual things it needs ..after 6 months if all is well then maybe try it with more expensive fish.. i think it all would depend on ventilation and size of bathroom and where you would locate the tank in the room.. it has to be far enough away from condensation and water vapor or you risk having a short or worse.. alot of people these days have massive bathrooms so it would have to be judged by the size of the room more then anything.. if it is a small compact room i would say it was a risk..

One concern that is often overlooked is electricity and water don't mix. I don't Know how close this tank will be to the tub, but...

While most aquariums are run without GFCI, they generally don't have a path to ground so chance of electric shock is minimal. A bathtub however is grounded and always the poteintial for electric shock is always present. Be sure that any aquarium accessories are plugged into a GFCI protected outlet, and test that outlet regularly.

GFCI = Ground Fault Circut Interuptor

It's 12'x10'. I've got the gfci covered, and will be 10' away from the tub 5' from the sink. Yeah Liz, I was just gonna put some guppies in it for now.
