Optimal water change schedule

If doing the 10% daily water changes makes you feel good, knock yourself out. But they're not necessary.

Unless the tank is polluted with lots of excess food, a good 50% or so water change weekly is plenty.
Agree. Even discus, which I kept for years, have no need for daily water changes with the right approach to feeding and keeping them.

Exactly what parasites would aquatic fish get from terrestrial earthworms?
Nematodes, for one. A healthy fish might be resistant enough to deal with them if not overloaded, but not a stressed fish. Feeding live earthworms is one of those things some people might get away with, but not something I'd do with my own fish.

All nematodes aren't the same.

Heard lots of stories of aquarium fish being infected by nematodes from tubifex worms, infected feeded fish and other aquatic creatures.

Never heard of aquarium fish being infected by terrestrial nematodes (possibly found in earthworms, red wigglers, night crawlers, etc.).

And I've, of course, been feeding terrestrial worms to my fish for 20+ years.

Tubaflex worms are the worst IMO, grown in sewage I never use those.

Agreed, no worries about parasites from earthworms. Now, if it just crawled through a puddle of antifreeze, I wouldn't feed it to my fish...

I am new to fish keeping and I was wondering how to do a water change, but I can just look that up and how many I should do and how much for a 45gallon African Cichlid tank. Any info on that would be greatly appreciated. Really enjoy this site and everyone on it everyone is nice helpful and has cool stuff to talk about.

If your interested in African cichlids post your question in that section. The guys over there will help you out. To do water changes you can use a busket or a spyhon hose that connects to you tap and fills the tank back. Look up Python water changer to see what it is.

Use to do the bucket back and forth method. I swear by my Aqueon water changer now. LOL
