I like the idea of the sand on top of the tile. I didn't think ahead and the bottom of my tank was left clear. When the sand moves you can see the light from under my stand shine up through the bottom. So the tile idea great. Next tank i get im going to be sure to paint the bottom black. I want something pool sand grit and size but in black.

Everyone has great ideas...im just being picky.

you can try to spray paint the bottom with a textured paint that mimics sand.

i changed the bare bottom tank in my living room to small black pebbles. But not too small. Big enough that i can suction it up easily.

i had to look around at a few lfs. Its almost like rinbow puke gravel just a lil bigger and all black
