Do you have an area where the turtle can haul out and bask? Musk turtles are more aquatic than some but still require a place to dry out and UV light. Also they are pretty carnivorous so the tetras will most likely be picked off eventually. I have my EPT in a 75 filled about 5/8ths up with a big pile of drift wood for it to climb out of the water onto. There is not enough room in my tank for a GT.

My tank is filled to the top with a floating rock that the turtle has never used. There is no lid just the canopy so there is plenty of basking room. I had him since he was a hatchling and he's as happy as can be. He will nibble on a fish if he can catch them though so the school of fish must be fast.

Sounds good just covering all the bases.

I've always found musk turtles basking and on land too. Mostly they find a log in the middle of a pond. I used to live near a pond and found one in a parking lot pretty far from the water. I was pretty shocked by that. They are very aquatic but really do need the UV like you say. They are pretty much like red eared sliders.

Well I'm not sure how mine is thriving without a UVB but he is growing like a weed. Maybe because my aquarium lights are so bright. What are signs that he is not getting everything that he need?

Vitamin D "D3" which is provided by sunlight (or a UVB bulb) is needed for calcium metabolism, the signs would be deformed or soft shells.

Just buy a uvb bulb. Or move the tank into direct sunlight.

You know he's not getting enough when it's not present lol
