When he shed, it was in flakes. Is that bad?

their armor usually come apart at the seams, they typically eat some of it for the nutrients. If it's not in the tank, look under the furniture, once out they start looking for dark areas to hide, and they can survive for awhile out of water, as long as their gills are wet. By now, he's dried and dead. My cats usually found my escapees.

I never found my fw lobster that I lost 2 years ago.

I had one crawl out of my 10 gallon aquarium once; I found him a week later dried up behind the toilet.
I guess I don't clean my bathroom often enough.

I found my eel on the floor dried up when I woke up in the morning. I picked him up, put him in the tank, and he swimmed out of my hand into the tank!

Ya I wonder how long he was out there!

Mines always disappear after it molts. Its very valuable after a molt so it will hide til its shell hardens. Crawling out is a possibility too. Check dark areas and corners in your room, they can survive for a day out of water
