Once you keep discus, you start to keep all your cichlids like discus.. then you realize how big and colorful they end up compared to the way you did it before. lol. All that food and clean water really does the trick. It's just a lot of work and gets exhausting.

That's exactly it. Once I raised a batch of discus all of the sudden all of my tanks started getting more water changes. I quickly realized that all fish will do a lot better with the same care. Just because they survive without the same care level doesn't mean they won't do even better if you step it up a little.
