Hi guys, wondering if nsomeone would be able to help me. Not sure if this is a cause for concern but I’ve noticed both my orbignyi rays have gone pale on the edges especially near the pelvic fins. There seems to be white appearing around this area and on the edges of the disc. I've taken some snaps. Anyone know if its a disease and if so what’s the best treatment? Water conditions are 0ppm ammonia / nitrite. <10ppm nitrates. Any help / advice appreciated.

i had same problem and miles said the disc is thin due to not enough food. fed them more and now they do not show this. this seems to appear more on the smaller rays in my experience good luck.

that ray is very skinny... give him nightcrwlers, live blood worms and tubifex

that white around the disk means.... they are dying..

i had this with 10 marble's (new import) they are all death now.. it's possible that your ph is not good for the ray's so check it..
do 15/20% water change every day.. temperature to 30/31 degrees and give them live food !

Im currently giving them nightcrawlers once a day, temp is 27 degrees, shall i increase feeding to twice a day and raise temp?

first raise temp to 30 degrees.. check you water also (ph, nitrate, nitrite, amonium).. the white disk means also that your water is not good.. so you must do a water change from 15/20% every day.. how long do you have this rays now ? if you bought them like this you must bring them back or tell the LFS that he gives you not healthy fish.. if you bought them a few days ago you also must do more research before bying rays

Looks like its from lack of weight..

sometimes white patches around the rim of the disc can be a bacterial infection.. lots of different things might treat it, but diagnosis in ray disease is pretty tough. Alot of the bacterial infections can be cause from many things, like waste in the sand, abrasive sand, poor water quality, and a secondary effect from heater burn, mating bites, tankmate bites, pleco rasp, etc..

these types of bacterial infections are more splotchy.. not evenly white around the entire disc.. that is usually just a super thin transparent disc, and the veining, vertical lines, and hips show an underweight ray.

fresh imports can have this issue like potamotrygon said, but thats usually from shipping water quality and/or new water parameters/ammonia spikes from adding lots of rays at a single time..

my Ph dropped last week to around 4.5 which I suspect has caused it. As for water conditions, Ph currently 7.3, ammonia / nitrite 0 and nitrates <10.

Thnx for the reply miles, so shall i just raise the temp for now and keep feeding them night crawlers once a day?

I would free feed them as much as they can eat all day long for a few weeks until they put on some body weight.. keep an eye on h20 quality

Right, thats not a problem, im currently feeding them night crawlers, shall i stick with them or mix with others? Also got frozen brine shrimp / lance and bloodworms but can get others if itt recommended as I hate seeing the poor chappies like this.
