Orbignyi rays looking pale

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thnx for the advice guys, its appreciated. Looks like the male has taken a turn for the worst though. Its gone really white all of a sudden and both seem to be gasping for air as they are raising from the front while breathing. I cant believe im going to fail as a ray keeper, followed everything by the book and did months of research before going for them. Checked ammonia just now and its still on 0ppm. Any1 have any ideas that could save them and what could have caused this? Could it be the PH shift from last week? They were fine all week after that though. Even yesterday.

add a few airstones and some salt.... there is no sign of DC yet.......

How's their appetite been. Has the male been eating at all?

Some good advice has been given here. One other thing that should be mentioned, you will need to increase your water change schedule with the feedings. More feeding means more bio-load, consequently, more water changes. You could do 50% two to three times weekly, depending on total water volume of your tank, or you could stick with smaller daily water changes, whichever your schedule allows. Best of luck.

don't do 50% 3 times a week. you can better do 20% or 25% every day ;) it's hard work... but they can survive if they are eathing.. so i have good hope for you and your rays

Thnx for the replies guys, they are definitely eating but taking their time. Chucked in 10 live night crawlers this morning (6am) and they were still trying to munch them around 8am. They were eating them but very slowly. I managed to get a couple of snaps of the females underside. Also did a 15% water change this morning and will be feeding them again when I get home from work.

They look good underneath.. not the substrate.

Well i've bought some aquarium salt today so going to add some of that when I do another w/c tomorrow morning. Going to also feed them some more straight after work then again at night. think they are struggling with live worms as they try to take them in then throw them back out. will cut them up into smaller pieces for a few days.

Never seen rays go white like this before.
