Hey just curious, did they put anything on the barbs on the rays?? I'd hate to see what would happen if some kid got stung by one.. There would go the petting part.:(

They file down the points of the barbs, but they also tell the kids not to mess with the tail. They have been doing this for several years without incident, so it must work...

They actually were more worried about the kids messing with the blown glass plates - one of my kids got in trouble for grabbing one! :irked:

One of my favorite parts was getting a tour of a mechanical rooms from an aquarist!

This is the filter for a jellyfish tank. The barrel is full of bioballs. I mentioned pot scrubbies, but the guy said they got the bioballs for free from the Federal Government. :screwy:

The blown glass work looks awesome! It takes a lot of work and talent to make stuff like that.

I've always been more worried about being bitten by the rays when feeding them than getting stung. It hurts!!!! Happened once, never again. Great pics!

I love going to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I remember going there to see Kaco (sp) the killer whale from Free Willy. This last summer was the first time I had been back since they had turned his tank into the walk through tunnel tanks. I think that and the king crab tanks were my favorite.
