Thanks, for an 8$ fish this guy is exceptional lol i think hes got some potential to be a stunner, i may keep him as the only bass permanently in the tank(s) but i want a kel and azul so bad

Couldn't catch it on the cell cam but he's also getting a nice blue irridescense to his cheeks

Everyone still think this is a pure Orino? The thing confusing me is the tri-color tail and the colored pectorals and anal fins

Nice, im hoping its pure O

Ive had him since late november at about 2 inch, hes about 5 inch maybe more. idk the exact size, thats an under-estimate, i dont like taking fish out to measure haha on a diet of mainly pellet (hikari carnivore or cichlid gold, also eats bloodworms and live blackworm) hes more then doubled in length and girth in about 3 months

I agree that handling fish just to measure them isn't a good idea, I'm happy with an eyeballed size. :)

The growth's actually pretty quick for an orino! Tell me more about your water parameters? I've had a theory that they require slightly different water conditions than other Cichla, which may explain their pokey growth (I and several others have been dealing with slow growth rates of about 1/2 inch per month with these fellas).

Oh wow, yeah I'd guess he's at about an inch a month give or take a lil

Params
PH 7.0-7.5
Nitrite + Ammo 0
Nitrate less then 10 (40% changes every few days, and I run a huge pothos bush)
GH is high, KH is low

I always strive for lowest nitrate levels possible haha that may factor into the quicker growth

Not what I would have thought! I know that the Orinoco River can have some pretty low pH readings, but now that I think about it, where the animal lives doesn't necessarily have the 'best' conditions for fastest growth. Keeping nitrates that low in a predator tank is a big effort, I applaud you on that. :)
