Well I've had my suspicions for the last few months, but now I'm 100% sure I've got a pair amongst my Orinos. They've gotten super aggressive towards other cichla in the tank and are intolerable of any fish entering their side of the tank. Dorsals are jet black and they are eating like mad.

What do I do now? They are in a community type tank now. Can I expect them to spawn in the crowd or will I have to get them a tank of their own for any hopes of producing offspring? Breeding Orinos has been a goal of mine since I picked these guys up over a year ago!

Very cool, you might need to separate them by dividing the tank or getting a new tank.

I don't know much about breeding but I would think that water chemistry and conditions contribute to spawning behavior, so wouldn't it be bad to move them out of the tank? Would it be better to move the other tank mates?

I hope you get a spawn!

id get a new tank for them! as discussed in other threads, the change in water parameters could really put them into breeding mode as this would simulate nature when heavy rains come in

I don't really have the space for another big tank right now so I guess my question is, if left to themselves, can I expect any sort of breeding? They are still under 14" so I think that, while they may be mature, they might be a little small. That's the reason I'm not too hurried to take action. I'd love to see these guys go at it at 16"+

I'm going to try and borrow my friend's HD Canon camera and try to document as much as I can. I just hope I can produce some fry. F1 orino goodness!
