Ornate and Silver Aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it's always relative to one's market and how much that market allows for pricing a specific fish. in wichita, $70 for an arowana is a little high. they usually go for $55-65 here, at that size. I've not seen an ornate here, in awhile, so I'm not sure about them, but if i had to guess, i'd say that ornates will probably go for $50 here.

agreed. mines at 29" now and i never thought he'd get this big. oh, and no one wants (read: can house) them if you look to get rid of them at that size. I wish mine had more room....

how big is your tank ??

That price seems high for a Silver Arowana that size.

The ornate bichir price seems okay, but you can buy them online for 30.

But online means you have to pay shipping...

In Vancouver
5" silver for around $40
6" Ornate- $50 to $70

Where? I live in Vancouver and really want a silver aro, but haven't been able to find one. Ive found several asian varieties, but they all seem to be between $650-$800

It really depends where you live. I live in the Los Angeles area and I've seen many stores sell 5-6 inch silver arowanas for $25 each. I bought a baby aro at 1 " for $7. If you have the room and the right tankmates, why not buy a smaller aro? He'll be at 5 to 6 " in a few short months and IME, the baby silver aros are usually pretty hardy. I've raised a few aros from when they were babies, but some people will tell you that they die easily at that stage.

The advantage you get from buying them as babies is that you can feed them the best color enhancing food and they'll turn out really beautiful when they grow up. I fed my baby aro color enhancing pellets and now he's showing a beautiful green and pink all over his top and bottom fins.
