i have two ornate,s in a 7 ft tank when i introdused the 2nd it tore the originals fins to sheds they then spend the next 3 months at opposite end of the tank. but now they are allways together no fighting even over food
One last question, are there any major differences between the male and female ornates. Like do the males look cooler like most cichlids or anything like that?

No, but sometimes they have slight color differences, I like the ligher more yellowish pattern, but sometimes you can get a real dark one. One of mine as a small black spot on the side, but for the most part they look the same. The differences are so small, you can hardly notice. Nothing like delhezi which is very odvious with stripe pattern or endli. I have one with a light pattern and one that is dark, hard to describe though but both are cool.
I KNOW WHEN THE ORNATES GET OLD MAYBE OVER 12 YEARS I HAVE SEEN THEM TURN BLACK WITH LITTLE LIGHT TONES OF WHITE / GO TO YOU TUBE AND TYPE IN 62CM ORNATES ,AND LOOK AT THOSE ORNATES.
