Ornate bichir and synodontis notattus

these guys are roughly the same length 10-11" ish and they do this alot nobody has ever come to any harm so im wondering are they just playing, fighting or flirting?

Looks to be a dominance thing. I guess there is never a clear winner so they keep at it. Some more driftwood in there might help give them enough territories.

they are in a 7ft 200G tank mate there is plenty of driftwood/places for them to go they just seem to meet up and do this for about half hour?
 
You can always try moving things around in the tank and see if it stops them from this behavior, but as long as they aren't hurting each other I wouldn't worry about it to much. Now do they display this behavior all over the tank or just in one particular spot?
 
it look like the synodontis notattus is the one who bullying the bichir.

the bichir lives over the other side of the tank he just goes over to the catfish every now again to do this im wondering whether with the bichirs poor eyesight he might be mistaking the catfish's spines on his fins as a worm or something?
