Ornate Bichir, BGK, Peacock Eel?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
peacock will hide in the substrate the entire time and should be left alone from everything unless they go digging for him, my peacock just chills underneath my sand all the time i never even see the lil guy an is safe from my tire-track eel who is mean to everything accept my senegal

Please don't compare senegal bichirs and an ornate bichirs. Senegal have smaller mouth and grow smaller. Ornate can get up an average of 18"+ with bigger wider mouth. Also ornate have the reputation of the most aggressive bichirs. So please never compare a senegal bichir to an ornate bichir.

And if you think bichirs don't hunt, you thought wrong. Not many people seen them dug up prey under the substrates but here are some pics of my two laprede's bichirs hunting for weather loaches under the substrates.

what are some other smaller bichirs?

Most captive lower jaw bichirs grow up to 13 inches or smaller.
-Polypterus senegalus senegalus
-Polypterus mokelembembe
-Polypterus delhezi
-Polypterus palmas polli

I have senegals with a BGK and 2 Peacock eels....I would skip the ornate because it gets huge and is one of the more lazy as far as activity goes.

I would try and get the eels and bgk larger than the poly's...My BGK is half the size of my senegals and has been bit twice by the senegals.

I am thinking of passing on an eel for now...getting the bgk and one of the smaller polys a little later on...I might even wait on this tank for a little bit and do a cichlid one first...of the 2 new tanks i'm picking up today I may just get one going for now and wait a bit for the other

i've seen sens and BGKs at petsmart together all the time but i'm not comparing the two as ornates are aggressive and much larger..... dont know about the peacock eel

king el is very right if u got a tank big enuff 2 house an ornate id go wit a bigger eel lik TT or fire eel
