how bout ornate, electric catfish, long fin oscar, leporinus and anostomus? Too much? Would the mix work?

Seems way too much to me. Just my opinion though. I'd do ornate, endlicheri, African Brown Knife, and a Spotted Leaf Fish Pair.

I wouldn't go with an oscar in a tank like this. Look through the forum lists, oscars are time bombs that you can never tell. Quote: "Never trust an oscar." The have the tendency to just go berserk for no reason then it can be over just as fast as it started... problem is usually a lot of collateral damage. Lots of people have them mixed in, but lots of them have stories about how their oscar killed all the other fish. My gf's oscars did the same in her tank, killed everything but eachother.

Zero it prob was a pair of oscars all cichlids get aggro durning pairing and i would skip Ecatfish

NEVER heard of a single oscar doing that. if you have more than one together and they do that they're a pair who are tryin to stake out their breeding territory.

i love oscars. i think that they're on of the most personable fish in the pet trade

what about nixing the catfish and replaced the oscar with dats? or just nixing the catfish? we have one in the lfs that I work at and i like it so I thought I would throw it into the mix to see what you thought.

i do like the bichir carpet idea. but i have done angels and wasn't too impressed. how many bichirs could I do?

Severum do well with bichirs I have an orange one. I like ctenopoma I have one in with my bichirs. Be careful with angels because I had an ornate that was a fin nipper. Also had large electric blues with my bichirs for a while. Dats do well to, be careful with the catfish idea, I found it is better to let bichirs be the only bottom dweller because I had a synodotis that was pretty territorial. Plecos are a no go.. mine always ended up sooner or later eating the slime coat and I've tried several species..
Good luck man, bichirs are fun to keep.
How many you can keep in a 120 is up to debate, water changes are real important, but they do like to pile up when not active in my tanks no matter what the cruising space or how many I have. lol Mine do hang out by species for the most part.. delhezi pile.. palmas complex and moke pile.. teugulsi has his spot. Retros have theirs.. It is pretty funny. I moved out my syno cat because he would just switch his favorite area and my fish would be so stressed so it was for the best to leave him out.

I do like sevrums. That would be cool. Like 4-5 bichirs, 2 sevs and maybe a rocket gar(silver hujeta) for the top? I'm a weekly water changer so that shouldnt be a problem.
