i just bought a 2 1/2 inch ornate bichir 2 days ago and when i bought him he was under fed. His head was porpotioned to his body because of it. When he swims its not in a nice steady stride like my senegal, but when he swims it seems like his head wobbles a little. There arent any visual signs of damage, but could this be a broken spine or will he swim right when he puts on weight?

I thought all bichirs swim funny, but if it's notice able, perhaps there is an issue with it's internal growth/development, specifically the swim bladder, due to being underfed for too long?

I hope not though.

One of my Sen's has started swimming like that lately. Like he's looking for someone. Which he usually is (the female Sen).

He is actually moving his head from side to side, in a jerky motion, while swimming. Is that what you mean?

Maybe it is more pronounced 'cuz he is so skinny? Can you get a video of it?

Bichirs are also able to turn their heads. Something most other fish can't do.

Could it be that he seemed underfed but in fact there was something wrong with him and couldn't eat properly to begin with? How's he eating now?

Good questions.

A vid would really help to tell if it's normal swimming pattern or what.
