Before I say this I want to make it very clear we are talking about TFD- Tropical Fish Distributors.
Instead of an ornate, I opted to go with a ' 5-6" polypterus palmas'. No list of species, but for $15, I figure any species is worth it. We got it in at the store and a) I'm 99.9% sure it's a senegal, not any type of palmas, and b) it is in absolutely AWFUL condition. Its tail fin is almost completely gone, and its pectoral fins are ripped almost completely off, as well- the only thing remaining are bloody stumps where the muscle part is. And the belly has a big scrape from its head all the way down to its tail where scales are missing. It looks like it was dragged backwards over lava rock or something. It can't swim at all and merely wiggles around the bottom of the tank it's in. I'm absolutely appalled that ANY fish was sent out from a wholesaler in this condition, let alone a $15 fish that was individually pulled and put into a bag all by itself. If it were one of 30 fish in a bag, I could understand how you don't see one is in bad condition before it goes, but like it is now. . . I can say I will NEVER order a bichir from TFD again. The first one I got from them (a delhezi) had a puckered fin, which I dealt with and didn't complain- this is just awful. They sent me an obviously injured animal that is on death's door.
