hey guys:D... i was just wondering why my ornate bichir is significantly smaller than my other species... namely palmas and senegalus... they share the same tank and have the same diet... im worried about what might happen to it in the future if it doesnt catch up... any info would be good... thanks..:D

It is because ornates are often the least hungry of the species. They eat the least, they grow a bit slower as a result. but once ur other two hit a certain size theyre growth rate will decrease alot! but due to the ornates larger full grown size, the point at which it starts growing slower is larger. so hell catch up and prolly get bigger than the others eventually...

Generaly smaller Polypterids growth starts to slow after they get 7-8 inches so the ornate should catch up then -Anne

don't worry your ornate will easily outgrow everybody else in the tank.

i HAVE A RATHER LARGE ONE AND ITS TAKEN HIM MANY YEARS TO GET TO THE SIZE HE IS NOW. HE IS ABOUT 18INCH AND I HAVE HAD HIM FOR LIKE 8 YEARS. HE WILL CATCH UP, ONCE HE REACHES ABOUT 8 INCHES HE WILL GET ALOT BULKIER AND GRADUALLY GAIN LENGHT.

normal size for for an ornate is 18-24 inches-Anne
