wont he be too big too keep with other bichir species?

Eventually it will be too big to keep with the smaller species like senegals and palmas. That can take several years though.

i guess its just the individual...my ornate grew to a little over 10" pretty fast. Now he slowed down, but he outgrew my senegal by a long shot. The senegal is about 6" and the ornate is over 10"
