I was wondering how much a ornate, maybe 4"-5" would go for? There's one at my lfs for $40. Just wanted to know if it was worth it. Also how big do they grow to? How r their behaivors?

a while ago i bought 2 ornates of around that size. I paid 50 for them together. They eventually might grow to around 60 cm but that will take some time. up to around 30 cm they will grow pretty fast but after that it will be slow. their behaviours are pretty cool. mine have a huge appetite. they are with plecs and they eat half of what i throw in each time. im no expert but it appears they will become more active when they grow a bit bigger. mine just chill out most of the day but i can see them do so: they are not shy at all.
$40.00 is a good price.Polypterus ornatipinnis can reach 18-24 inches on average.Mine have tended to be very nocturnal when young.-Anne

I am pretty lucky, just bought an Ornate for £1 at the weekend and he is 18" long and about 3.5" wide, lovely fish, i feed myother fish prawns and he hovers them up like no tomorrow, just need a similar size endi!
Only problem is that my Apurensis hates him!
