Ok thanks for the heads up on the plecos! Hopefully getting another 50g tank at the weekend so I can seperate them for a while. I was going to chuck birchir into the 20g hospital tank for now but he looked a bit big to bkeep there for long..

i have an ornate bichir in an 80 gallon he is about 7" and he is with a 5 1/2" oscar and a 8" oscar with an 8" jack dempsey a one foot pleco and a 4" pleco with a 4" raphael catfish and they get along just fine. the big pleco dosnt like it but it only tries to stab it to keep all the fish away and the smaller one dose his own thing.

Never really had too many problems with mine as long as the tank mates were big enough, just remember a 6"-7" ornate is a whole different kettle of fish to an 18"+ ornate. my 12"+ balas and tinfoils where fine. Anything below 6"-7" were stalked and had to be removed. Anything too fancy will get grabbed as well (i.e. giant gourami's with their long pelvic fins). Individual personalities come into it as well, mine never ate things it couldn't grab and eat whole, others will tear chunks out of things.

So far mine has only tried to eat the corrydorus, soon as I saw he was big enough to eat them I put them in the community tank.

I picked up a 3ft 40g tank with a leaking seem this week, just got to fix that then I can go about seperating them a bit.. saying that tho since my first post there hasn't been any upsets between birchir or anyone else at all. (between tt eel and angels is another matter) . been feeding him silver sides once a week and going to try him on frozen shrimp this weekend.
