Ornate vs Senegal with Saratoga (leichardti)

Thank you for all your replies.

Ornates it is! Bigger and beautifullier :)

By the way, I usually feed my toga Hikari floating carnivore sticks. Usually can you get ornates on the Hikari sinking carnivore pellets/massivore?

Just don't have the inclination to feed live food because it freaks the hell out of my gf. Frozen bloodworms, freeze dried blackworms, etc fine. I'll also feed them defrosted frozen seafood mix from the supermarket eg., mussels, prawns, calamari.

They should. My senegal went straight onto pellets, most will eat anything that smells. Live is rarely if ever necessary

My polys were easy to get on pellets, and they are WC. CB fish are probably even easier, and if I'm not mistaken most available ornates are CB. My ropes were harder to convince but they're there too.

Polys love fish like silversides - you can get those in the freezer section of your LFS maybe. Many here do tilapia because it's cheaper, but with one fish you could get away with the silversides maybe. I like them because they're whole fish, heads, etc. The frozen seafood mix sounds awesome too. Many of us also do live earthworms. Maybe you could sneak those in when your gf is out. ;)

Ornate can be picky at fisrt, they wont jump on pellets right away, feed frozen tilapia fillet and once it starts to get comfortable with frozen food then try sinking carnivore pellet. When introducing a pellet try to starve it couple off days.

Grats on the new ornate. Post pics when you get him/her.

Mine actually prefers pellets over cut fish filet.

How many are you getting ?

Awesome, here in Australia every fishing/camping shop sells frozen "whitebait" by the kg, so I'll try that.

Just thinking of one, as they are $800 AUD ($600 USD) each even for a baby.
Also 2 may fight each other? As well as put a lot of strain on my filtration. I have no interest in breeding them.
