I snapped a few pics of the Ornate. She (I think it's a she) is about 9" now and is doing pretty good.

Great markings on the ornate balton. I believe ornates can be sexed once they hit the 1 foot mark. My ornate just ate my oscar

Thanks yall. Trip your Ornate ate your Oscar? He must really be a monster bichir. They had a huge beautiful 20" Ornate at one of my lfs' last week for $349. I can't wait until mine reaches that size but it seems to be a slow grower so it'll take a while.

My ornate is around 15 inches and THICK. Oscar was bigger than most of the convicts and fire mouth cichlids in the tank so I figured he'd be safe. There's even a couple of clown plecos in the tank as well. Can't tell ya how long it's taken my ornate to grow that big since I just got her in April as a birthday present.

I always thought so. Figure it would be nicer on their stomach than gravel.
