Ornatum

Nice, first let me say I do not have any experience with Ornatum. Having said that there still cichlids and if I was you I would get a group of females if you have a hook up for that and let him pick his choice. Especially for the fact he will have his own tank. I have had experience with males not liking certain females and it can get old, plus you will only have to pay for shipping once. Very nice species and there is only one other person one here that I know of whom has breed them. It would be nice to see another breeding pair. Own tank, dedication = go for the group! ;)
 
I agree with NWatson, and look for a group. I just picked up a group of 5 to add my original 4. I have the group of 5 in a 75 ATM they're all 4-6" the other 4 are in a pond and they're 2.5-3.5" here in a couple weeks I'll be moving them around and venting them. I'm trying for 1 or 2 males and however Many females I have to go into a 125 if I have less than 3 females then I will only go with one male and divide the others in sone other tanks.

I think with ornatums it's more of a maturity thing than size when trying to spawn. George had his for a year before they spawned and in sure he got them at a decent size to begin with. And from what I've gathered they seem very picky choosing mates, so the more females the better:)
 
Thanks for the replies. I think this is something I could be happy with doing. I started some preliminary looking around and it seems they're still rather rare and expensive. lol Maybe soon I'll be able to hook it up. I want to get a group and put them in the 265g all together and see a pair will form.

You never know with me though, by the time I'm able to find some I could completely go off in another direction. ;)

Yes thats what i said when i heard. But the props goes out to George:) from what i know, he bought them from Rapps last year and just got them to spawn recently:)

I am with you on this one;) But i know George is a really busy man, heck just trying to reach him on the phone is hard enough let alone trying to get him to find time to get on here lol

He has great colors on him :) You have a beautiful pair of Festae, IMO a pair of Ornatum would be nice :)
