I had a 2" Oscar in a tank with my africans and 2 Jack dempseys. All of the other fish tageted the oscar and killed him. I tried rearranging the tank and everything. I thought that Oscars were supposed to be a tought aggressive breed.

no, oscars try to act tough but are actually very wimpy as far as large cichlids go, if something is a lot smaller than it, the oscar will bully it, if the other is aggressive and just half the oscars size, the oscar will have to stand down, my carpintis beat the snot out of my oscar 4 or 5 times, i have them each in a tank alone now

people think oscars are tough because they eat a lot of live food or what wasn't meant to be live food because they have big appetites and big mouths

oscars get more aggresstive when they get bigger...between 7"and up

Oscar's aren't very aggresive most of the time, though some individuals are. Not as aggresive as African cichlids and Jacks, both very well known for having a bad temper. Besides, a 2" oscar is just a baby. Oscars get more aggresive once they hit sexual maturity.

oscars are very spontaneous, 1 minute there aggressive the next there timid...all oscars are diff tho...to toughen em up a lil start feeding em live food...always helps..

:iagree:

plus, most of the time oscars are only really aggressive when you have 2 matured males in the same tank that is not large enough for them to each have a territory. in other words, if you keep 2 matured male oscars in a 75 gallon tank then most likely the dominant one will kill the other. pretty much any other time they may be a bit territorial, but if another fish stands up to them they'll play dead. there are exceptions of course and you may occasionally run into a fairly aggressive oscar but they are certainly not the norm.

Actually Oscars are a wussy breed. Not very aggressive at all. You'd be very lucky to get an overly aggressive Oscar!

If you want an Oscar in a tank of those more aggressive fish, you need the Oscar to be way bigger. But not big enough to eat the other fish.

Once Oscars pack on some size, they do become less fearful of other fish if they are territorial. Some huge oscars still get scared of smaller fish. :screwy:

i tried putting my 6" carpintis in with my 9" oscar last week, the carpintis still whooped his butt even though it was the oscars tank and the oscar has 3" on him

My 10" Oscar is scared of my 5" GT....GT kicks it's butt all over! Had to remove it.

My Oscar used to be badass...kicked the crap outta my 6" JD, and 6" Killer Flowerhorn when it was 8 inches...

anyways, Oscars also seem to be kinda easily damaged...
