When everyone thinks "wet pet" it seems they gravitate to oscars. I was curious, what other large (12-18") personable fish have you kept?

Blue catfish, Ictalurus furcatus was surprisingly personable for me. I got one legally from a nursery when I lived in Missouri about 10 years ago. It was immediately confident and highly food motivated. The behavior for blues is compeletely different than that of channel cats- they glass bang, they beg, they're active mid-column swimmers and they're reactive to humans. Really fun fish with surprising behavior! I'd like to get another someday I think. ?

Blood parrots are amazing.

Haven’t kept these but:
Flowerhorn
Chocolates
Amphs
Large labyrinth fish
Wolves
Spiny eels
Large Puffers

Here's some ideas for you. You can't go wrong with most Amphilophus, including Trimac, Midas and the Red Devil among others. Males usually max out at 13-14". Another fish would be the Jaguar cichlid, a male can reach over 16" plus. All of these fish mentioned can be quite personable and interactive. GL

Any of the medium-large central American cichlids and derived hybrids: amphilophus, herichthys, vieja, maskaheros, parachromis...I would say any of the big CA cichlids have even more personality than your average oscar. Imo Oscar's are just hungry. A big midas or jag will actually interact with you and attempt to communicate in various ways.

Peacock Bass. They’re more aggressive at trying to get your attention for feeding. Tail slaps to any other fish near them. Rain coat or swimsuit required during feeding

I k ow this isn’t really big but angelfish for me are big wet pets. I don’t know if it is just mine but they follow my fingers and jump out of Thebes water for food
