It must be duanes duanes then, I recently saw some pics posted of them.

For any powerful cichlid, the divider must be strong enough to keep from collapsing, being battered.
I use horizontal pieces zip tied to the bottom, rocks can be placed on to hold steady along with perpendicular horizontpieces as braces.

It must also be tall enough that the fish can't slide over, so a few inches higher than water level, and for insurance I make notches for the tank frame to wedge into, for extra holding.

For breeding, where one gender is larger than another, cut areas only the smaller one can use to escape to a safe side.

OK i just added the little guy. With the separator in place. If the larger Oscar is chasing around the smaller guy, is that just "playing" (normal behavior) or was the larger Oscar being territorial and actually was a good choice of separating them?
I just feel bad because the larger Oscar hid on one side of the tank, and used the other side for pooping.

He was telling the little guy who's boss, more than likely.
When the little one catches up and you take out the separator you should also massively change up the decor of the tank so no one has any set territory.

My O did this when ever I introduced a new fish. Would chase around till she got a test taste bite. If too big she basically left them be save a chase here or there to remind them just Who's tank it is. If to small, became a snack.... goto love O's!
